A Lifelong Passion: Meet David Coombes
For over 45 years, bowls has been my passion. I've not only enjoyed countless hours playing the game but have also spent the last 25 years sharing my love for it as a sports journalist. My articles have been featured in local newspapers and national publications like The Times, The Telegraph, and The Oldie.
The sport of bowls took a significant hit during and following the Covid-19 pandemic. My aim, coming out of retirement, is not only to restore its popularity but to elevate its profile and following, similar to the success seen in darts and snooker in recent years.
Bowls is a sport that breaks barriers, enabling a fair contest between a retired lady and a teenager of the opposite sex. Few other sports can make such a claim. However, my primary goal is to dispel the stereotype that bowls is solely a game for the old and infirm.
